Yemin Orde, Israel

Yemin Orde is first and foremost a youth village on Mount Carmel near Haifa, which is currently home to about 430 children and young people who have come to Israel unaccompanied by parents as Jews from various countries around the world (mainly Ukraine, Ethiopia, North Africa, Iran). Many were sent by their parents simply because they cannot offer their children any perspective in their home country and Israel has committed itself to accept every Jew as a citizen. In this youth village, the children find the care they need to initially find support and orientation. However, Yemin Orde also supports these young people on their further path when they leave the youth village, often first to do their obligatory military service and then to begin vocational training. Yemin Orde's goal is not only to provide or restore the mental framework for those in its care to develop in the best possible way in Israeli society. The goal is also to provide them with training in both mental and physical abilities as well as mental strength to become leaders. To this end, Yemin Orde also grants or arranges scholarships as part of a graduate program. We support this organization with scholarships for in the meantime eight young people in training, who are Victoria, Eden, Aschalaw, Albina, Yael, Gramao, Zahava and Wladimir..

Eden - a native of Ethiopia, struggling through life for her degree in social work

Eden was born in Ethiopia in 1996 and immigrated to Israel as a child. After her arrival, her family struggled with integration and financial hardship and therefore could not help her sufficiently with her studies. She joined Yemin Orde in 2011 and began learning electrical engineering. After graduating from high school, she participated in a gap-year leadership program in 2015 before being drafted into military service. Eden is now studying for with a bachelor's degree in social work at Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem. She lives in a dormitory and tries to keep her head above water financially by cleaning houses. Eden's dream is to get her master's degree in economics. She is an active member of the Yemin Orde community and a role model for the youth work there.

Aschalaw is 27 years old, is also from Ethiopia and is studying crimonology and education

Aschalaw was born in Ethiopia in 1993 and grew up there farming in a rural region.  In 2002, he came to Israel with his parents and five siblings. There, he first had to learn to find his way in an urbanized new world. When he found that there were insufficient opportunities for him to develop well at school in the small West Bank town where he lived with his family, he found Yemin Orde in 2008. During his school years there, one of his most impressive experiences was being able to teach beginnings of Hebrew to children and teenagers during a stay abroad in Haifa's U.S. sister city. After graduating from high school in 2012, he participated in a gap-year leadership program before beginning his mandatory military service. After his military service, he first saved up some money with hard work so he could study. Now he is studying criminology and education in his second academic year at Ariel University in the West Bank/Palestine. His goal is preventive work with children and young people to give them a hopeful future free of crminilaity. In addition to his studies, he volunteers as a mentor for children.

Albina wants to help mentally ill people professionally

Albina came to Yemin Orde in 2006 as a child from Ukraine. After a successful high school graduation with good grades, she completed her military service as a dental assistant. She then began training as a nurse, which she would now like to complete with a final additional qualification in psychiatry. She would then like to help mentally ill people at the Mental Health Hospital in Haifa.

Yael - She would like to become a surgery nurse

Yael was born in Russia in 1985. She emigrated to Israel with her family. She came to Yemin Orde due to problems in her family, which included financial complications.  She always had the dream of becoming a nurse when she was in high school, but due to life circumstances she had to work in the cosmetics industry first. She worked hard, but the dream stayed with her. She got married, had three children.  When the pandemic broke out and she had to close her business, she saw it as a "last chance" to realize her dream. She was thrilled to be accepted in competition with other applicants to train as a nurse.  She is now in her first year of studying to become a nurse at Jezereel Valley College.  Her mission is to serve sick people as a surgery nurse.

Gramao ("Jeremy") - his music is his passion

Gramao was born in 1994 and fled Ethiopia with his family in 2006. He is the youngest of seven brothers and sisters. His father died in 2017. He lives at home with his mother to help her with household chores. After military service, Gramao started working in different security companies to contribute to the family's livelihood. Then he worked in technical support for computers for a while, but didn't really find himself there. He loves music and realised that if he wanted to do what he loves, he had to do something in that field. He eventually combined his technical computer experience with his love of music, took various courses and initially studied music production at Rimon Music School. He has since switched to a degree in computer technology.

Zahava - her dream is to become a pediatric nurse

Zahava was born in Ethiopia in 1982 and immigrated to Israel with her family in 1985. She is one of seven siblings - two girls and five boys. Zahava grew up with her older sister, who struggled with mental health issues. She did her national service (Sherut Leumi) in a special school. She then began working in the education field and earned a degree in special education. In 2014, Zahava got married and moved to Rehovot. Her eldest son was born with severe health problems and had to undergo a series of complex medical procedures, including spinal surgery. Today, his condition has stabilized. Zahava saw the kindness of the medical staff and decided to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. She began training to be a nurse at Kaplan Nursing School and is now in the first of three years. It is difficult to finance her studies, but Zahava is willing to work very hard to achieve her dream. Her experiences with her son, who is now largely recovered, have led her to want to become a pediatric nurse.
