Scholarships for Teddy's protégés

It all began in 1980 when Anne Namuddu, who had found friends in Germany during her studies in Freiburg i. Br., began to build an orphanage in Masaka (Uganda) for children from families suffering from AIDS. Her successor Teddy Nakanwagi has continued this orphanage project since 2013. In the course of time, she has found many helpers in her environment who all lend a hand to maintain and expand this so important social project. Now, however, the local families supporting the project are in particular need. The  schools and educational institutions have drastically increased the tuition fees with the consequence that the families are not longer able to finance them. The children and young people are acutely threatened with not being able to continue their education. We have found contact to Angela and Peter Heisig from Stuttgart-Degerloch, who are very committed to the project of Teddy Nakanwagi in connection with the Freundeskreis Uganda www.freundeskreis-uganda-aalen.org. We have taken over the school and study fees for 16 children and young people so that they can continue their education and achieve their goals.

Twelve handwritten letters fluttered into our mailbox today, lovingly worded and crafted.

Aidah, Racheal, Steven, Christine, Benedict, Mark Anthony, Maria, Adriana, Anna Olivia, Maria Vanitah, Elijah and Annuciate (Isabella) write how they have been, how happy they are to go back to school and what their plans are. Here is a representative from one of the letters:

"Dear Mr., Hoene, how are you nowadays and your family? How is Germany? I hope you are okay because of this pandemic disease covid 19. Back to me: I am fine and busy learning at home. My name is N. Maria Vanitah; 8 years old and I am in primary five at Kagganda Primary School. I have written this letter to thank You for everything, You have given me school fees because many children here in Uganda fail to go to school because of money. I promise to work hard and succeed in life. When I finish my studies, I want to become a nurse and I treat people. I send greetings to Your family members. Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year, Yours faithfully, N. Maria Vanitah"
