Within the limits of our capabilities, we wish – particularly at this critical time in the region – to support projects in Israel/Palestine that will have a positive impact on the future peaceful coexistence of the people living there. One such project, amongst others, is the joint initiative between the Jerusalem Foundation, the Hebrew University and the Jerusalem City Council to train social workers from East Jerusalem. Together with other charitable foundations from Germany, which we have been able to persuade to participate as equal partners in this project, we are able to support this wonderful initiative with our own annual contribution of €10,000. After a few years of training at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, up to 50 young Palestinians will gradually be qualified to make a meaningful contribution in the Arab-populated suburbs of East Jerusalem, helping the people there to find their way in their living environment so that they can, to a greater extent than before, find a real home there. The first cohort of trainees we have supported has been working as social workers in various Palestinian neighbourhoods of East Jerusalem since autumn 2025.
